La Joyera
La Joyera
Mexican-American metalsmith and jewelry designer Casey Perez lets her culture speak through her work.
Becoming a jewlery designer was not a part of the plan for Casey Perez. Born and raised in Dallas, TX to an immigrant family, Perez grew up wanting to pursue conventional career—one that promised stability, predictability, and financial security—even if it meant setting aside her creative ambitions.
That was until one decision during her time at New York University reignited her creative spirit and set her on a path she never expected.
La Joyera is a short documentary that explores Perez's life and work, taking viewers inside her journey as an artist and entrepreneur. The film follows her meticulous process as a bench jewelry designer, where every piece is handcrafted—without the aid of 3D printing or mass production. Her approach is hands-on and highly personal, ensuring that each item from her eponymous jewelry brand is truly one-of-a-kind.
The documentary offers an intimate look at how Perez channels her Mexican-American heritage into her work, infusing each design with cultural significance. From the intricate patterns reminiscent of patterns found in nature to the stories of perseverance that underscore her collections, Casey’s designs are more than just accessories—they’re a testament to her roots, journey, and identity.
